Gravel

25th October 2019

Dear Old Boys

The end of the year is rushing towards us and with it comes a number of traditional Old Boy events.

These are outlined later in this edition of Gravel and we do look forward to your attendance where possible.

GREAT NEWS!

THE NEW OLD BOYS' WEBSITE IS LAUNCHED

AND IS NOW ACTIVE AND AVAILABLE

The Site: https://rathkealeoldboys.org.nz/

It contains a range of information of relevance to the Association and will be continually updated with news, invitations, Rock Runner magazines and Gravel newsletters. We hope you enjoy it and find it useful.

Significantly, it also offers an easy means whereby Old Boys can update their contact details. For first time users, to secure a password, click 'forgot' and proceed. You may then change your password upon entry and it will remain the same.

More Good News!

The Wairarapa Times Age profiled two Old Boys in late September. Both are attending Lincoln University, and both are heading overseas after being awarded Prime Minister's Scholarships.

Tom McKay (2012-2016)

Tom is in his final year of a Bachelor of Agri-Commerce degree and is to spend four weeks in Brazil observing their extensive beef production before spending a further ten days exploring other parts of South America. Next year he will be back on the family farm in Alfredton before travelling to Canada later in the year.

Callum Woodhouse (2013-2017)

Callum is a second year Agricultural Science student who is heading to China where he will spend a good amount of time investigating the marketing of New Zealand products in China. He is expecting to encounter a very different world from the Eketahuna sheep and beef farm where he grew up!

John McKeefry (2011-2015)

John, who is also currently on a Rugby Scholarship at Lincoln University, was selected as a New Zealand Universities Rugby representative at the World Universities Rugby Tournament in Japan. Universities attending represent Japan, Russia, England, Australia, South Africa, Canada, France and New Zealand.

Wairarapa Gathering

A recent, casual gathering of Old Boys occurred early this month in tandem with a Wairarapa Bush rugby match.

Thanks to the efforts of David Pereira, Jacob Smith and Jock Cameron, the influence of Facebook and the bar at Lonestar, around thirty Old Boys enjoyed the chance to catch up.
